ACED role:

Late-stage development, leading financial close workstreams covering development, PPA negotiation, procurement, EPC and O&M negotiations, government & stakeholder interaction and arranging equity and debt financing.

Location:

Khangela is located in the Bedford area of the Eastern Cape Province and will consist of 32 Vestas V163-4.5MW turbines which will connect to the national grid via Eskom’s Gamma Main Transmission Substation.

IPP:

Khangela Emoyeni Wind Farm (RF) (Pty) Ltd – the shareholders are AIIM, through the IDEAS Fund, and the Reatile Group (Pty) Ltd with RMB as sole Mandated Lead Arranger for the project.

Capacity:

 A 20-year power purchase agreement has been signed with NYSE-listed Rio Tinto’s Richards Bay Titanium (Pty) Ltd for the supply of 140MW wind powered renewable energy for Rio Tinto’s South African smelting operations, through a wheeling arrangement with Eskom.

Status:

 The project began construction after reaching Financial Close in May 2024, and is scheduled to be fully operational in Q2 2026.
