ACED role:

Late-stage development, led financial close workstreams covering development, PPA negotiation, procurement, EPC and O&M negotiations, government & stakeholder interaction and arranging equity and debt financing. Providing construction management services. Msenge is the first grid-connected private wind farm in South Africa.

IPP:

Msenge Emoyeni(RF) (Pty) Ltd, the shareholders are African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM), through their IDEAS Fund and Reatile Group (Pty) Limited, with  RMB (Rand Merchant Bank a division of FirstRand Bank Limited), as sole Mandated Lead Arranger for the project.

Capacity:

 A 20-year power purchase agreement has been signed with Sasol South Africa Limited for the supply of 69MW of wind powered renewable energy for the production of green hydrogen at Sasol's Sasolburg operations, through a wheeling arrangement with Eskom.

location:

Msenge is located in the Bedford area of the Eastern Cape Province and will consist of 16 Goldwind 4.5MW turbines which will connect to the national grid via Eskom’s Poseidon Main Transmission Substation.

Status:

Msenge reached financial close in early March 2023 and is currently under construction. The project is scheduled to be fully operational in Q2 2024.
