Lower Maguduza Hydropower Project
ACED role:
Original developer, leading financial close workstreams covering development, PPA negotiation, procurement, EPC and O&M negotiations, government & stakeholder interaction and arranging equity and debt financing.
Location:
This is a 13.5MW project located along the Lusutfu River in Manzini, Eswatini and will consist of 2 Andritz turbines.
IPP:
Middle Lusutfu Hydropower (Pty) Ltd – the shareholders are AIIM, through the IDEAS Fund, and Eswatini’s Public Services Pension Fund (“PSPF”). PSPF and Standard Bank Eswatini are providing senior debt for the project.
Capacity:
A 30-year power purchase agreement has been signed with the Eswatini Electricity Company for the supply of hydro-powered renewable energy. This is ACED’s first project to reach financial close in the Eswatini region.
Status:
The project reached Financial Close in December 2024, is currently under construction and scheduled to be fully operational in Q1 2027.
